District 10 Thames Valley

District 10 Thames Valley is one of the 19 Districts that make up the Ontario Horticultural Association, better known as GardenOntario. Our District spans across the Counties of Elgin, Middlesex, Oxford, Perth and Lambton Shores in Southwestern Ontario, with 20 Horticultural Societies within our borders. We are governed by the Ontario Horticultural Association and OMAFRA (Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Foods and Rural Affairs) under the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act.

District 10 supports the Horticultural Societies within its borders by:

  • empowering our Society leaders with the skills they will need to create positive change and growth within their Societies
  • hosting leadership education and training workshops
  • exploring common issues and finding solutions that work
  • promoting the protection of the environment, encouraging biodiversity and sustainability practices in horticulture
  • arbitrating disputes & maintaining the fundamentals as laid out by the OHA
  • advocate for Societies in our District with the OHA
  • provide resources and help with distribution and understanding of information
  • give informed advice and support through visiting Societies, installation of Society boards, promotions
  • provide support and advice for incoming and current Society Board of Directors
  • holding Annual General Meetings where we provide transparency and encourage open communications
  • provide opportunities to join the District board and committees to help shape the future of our Societies, the District and the OHA

Growing zones in District 10 Thames Valley range from 5a to 6b, due to the moderating climate influence of the Great Lakes. With an unique and diverse landscape, District 10 consists of Carolinian Forests, river valleys, meadows, wetlands, fertile farmlands and sprawling urban areas.
